Lauren McClounan Semi Permanent Makeup
Before your appointment

Your questions, answered.

Please read the relevant FAQs before booking and let Lauren know about previous cosmetic tattooing or concerns that may affect suitability.

Which treatment is right for me?

Book a consultation to discuss the best approach and all your questions. Your included consultation at your appointment also allows us to tweak your desired result and treatment plan to suit you.

What are the contraindications?

We cannot perform tattoo or PMU treatments for:

  • Those under 18
  • Those pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Those with a pacemaker
  • Those with haemophilia or other blood-clotting conditions
  • Those with epilepsy
  • Those taking Warfarin, Antabuse or Roaccutane
  • Those who suffer with keloid scarring
  • Those with HIV or hepatitis
  • Those with autoimmune diseases or undergoing cancer treatments
  • Those under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Botox, fillers and chemical peels must be a minimum of 4 weeks before brow treatment, or 6 weeks for lip blush. Topical retinol must not be used for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after. Oral retinol must not be taken for 4 months before and 2 months after.

If you have ever suffered from a cold sore, discuss antiviral medication such as Aciclovir with a qualified healthcare professional before lip treatment. Lauren’s guidance recommends 5 days starting 1 day before treatment. Lip blush does not itself cause cold sores; trauma to the lips may trigger an outbreak. Never stop prescribed medication without speaking to your prescriber.

If you’ve had previous PMU elsewhere, please send a picture before booking to confirm suitability and your treatment plan.

How should I prepare?

Please do not ingest aspirin, ibuprofen, niacin, alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before treatment, as these may affect pigment implantation and retention. Do not stop prescribed medicines without medical advice. Ensure there is no fake tan on the area.

Lips: Exfoliate dry skin with a lip scrub. If you have had cold sores, seek medical advice about antivirals starting one day before treatment.

Eyeliner: Stop lash serums 4 weeks before. Do not have a lash lift within 2 weeks of treatment. Arrive without eye makeup.

What aftercare will I need?

Aftercare is extremely important to your healed results. Full instructions are given at your appointment.

Brows: Do not get brows wet, sweaty or in the sun for 2 weeks. Apply the creams provided and wear the first-night patch.

Lips: Try not to get lips wet for 7 days. Use a knife, fork and straw when eating and drinking. Apply the provided cream regularly to keep lips moisturised.

Eyeliner: Wipe and apply balm twice daily for 7 days; do not get wet. Eye makeup can be applied after 7 days. No lash serums, tinting or lash lifts for 4 weeks.

Tattoos: Keep the cover on for 5 days, slowly peel off and wash with warm water. Apply balm for at least 2 weeks. No saunas, steam rooms or swimming for 2 weeks.

Li-FT removal: Keep the area dry until all flaking has come off on its own. Apply aftercare cream only when flaking has stopped.

What are the salon policies?

A non-refundable deposit confirms your appointment. Cancellation with less than 72 hours’ notice or a no-show means your deposit is kept, and a new deposit is required to rebook.

You may transfer your appointment twice with at least 72 hours’ notice. A third transfer requires a new deposit and your original deposit is kept.

If you’re more than 10 minutes late, treatment may not be possible due to the impact on other clients. This is treated as a missed appointment within the cancellation window. Children are not allowed in the salon.

Should I arrange a patch test?

A patch test is recommended if you have allergies, and advised for everyone for extra safety. Contact Lauren after booking to arrange it at least 24 hours before your appointment. The products used are not highly allergic, though reactions remain possible.
